    Where does your 100% lie

Everything we do, we try to give it 100%. ‘I’m going to get fit, I really want to push myself’. ‘I’ve got so much on at work, I just need to make sure I get XYZ done for Joe Bloggs’. ‘I’m doing really well with my food, I just need to keep it up and I know I’ll feel better’. ‘I’ve got to pick the kids up and drop them off at swimming, then dancing, then parties, then make the dinner, clean the house…….’. ‘I’m supposed to be meeting a friend for dinner on Saturday, but I’ve also said I will…’. YOU ARE RUNNING ON FUMES. If you keep trying…

    It’s time to make time

‘But I don’t have time’ We’ve all said it at some time for one reason or another. Generally, it’s the biggest barrier to exercise – having the time. You work full time, have kids, have a social life, have commitments outside of work, you want a social life, you want to spend time with your spouse. Other things are prioritised, such as taking care of someone else, cleaning up the house or even just having some down time to relax from the stresses of work and life. Don’t believe everything you hear. ‘Lifting weights will make me bulky’. ‘Cardio will stop me building muscle.’ I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard these two statements. What’s even more frustrating is that that’s exactly what the are – statements rather than questions and I can tell you now that they are both wrong. Lifting weights will certainly make you bulky if that’s your aim – you can build muscle definition and bulk with a specific workout routine and diet. However they are also great for tone and fat loss. Weight lifting is all about your programme design. Those looking to improve muscular BUILD should try different training…

    Chasing the goal

Be honest, how many times have you thought or even said out loud ‘I’m really going to start exercising’, ‘tomorrow I’m going to join the gym’ or even ‘I think I’ll give that class a go’. Alas, all good intentions but tomorrow rarely comes. There’s one simple reason. You haven’t set yourself a goal to motivate you to do any of these things! You may be reading this thinking you haven’t got a goal, but trust me you can always create one. Yes for some people it’s obvious – they want to lose weight, build muscle, tone up, get stronger, look good on their holiday, fit into that new dress for a friend’s…

    Why AW² Wellness

The question I’m asked day in day out by so many people is ‘why?’ ‘Why did you become a personal trainer?’ ‘Why do you want to do it?’ ‘Why did you quit a perfectly great job to take the risk of going self employed?’ The answer is simple – because I love it. Exercise has the power to make you so much more than you ever thought you could be. I believe wellness is key to a happy, healthy and well rounded lifestyle. That may sound cliche and corny, but its true. At 110 kg, I was uncomfortable. I was clearly obese which was physically uncomfortable. Exercise did not come…
